It is important to remember that The Murph Challenge is more than just a workout. It is a tradition that helps push us, humble us, and allows us the opportunity to dedicate a bit of pain and sweat to honor LT. Michael P. Murphy (SEAL), a man who sacrificed everything he had for our freedom. Join us this year as we continue to help keep his legacy alive through The Murph Challenge campaign.

About the LT Michael P. Murphy Memorial Scholarship Foundation
The LT Michael P. Murphy Memorial Scholarship Foundation was started in 2007 by Michael’s parents, Dan and Maureen, and Michael’s brother John. Michael was an avid reader and felt that education was key. In fact, his favorite saying was, “Education will set you free.” That is why the Murphy Family used their own funds to start the Foundation.

The Foundation Board started with family and now seats nine members consisting of Dan, Maureen and John Murphy as well as other close family and friends committed to keeping Michael’s life, service, sacrifice, and legacy alive, as well as that of his SEAL teammates.

FAQ

  1. Why should I #TakeTheChallenge?
The Murph Challenge is the perfect way to participate in a workout challenge with friends while benefiting an amazing cause. It is the official annual fundraiser of the LT. Michael P. Murphy Memorial Scholarship Foundation, and it’s one of the primary means of funding for the Foundation on an annual basis. Through kind donations and engaging fundraisers like the Murph, the Foundation now awards over 27 scholarships annually. YOUR support is what drives their success! Learn more about the Foundation and its scholarships here: https://murphfoundation.org
  2. What does The Murph Challenge workout consist of?
The workout consists of a one mile run, 100 pullups, 200 pushups, 300 squats, and another one mile run… all while wearing a 20lb vest or body armor. Let’s do this!
  3. Why is Maxed Out Fitness hosting The Murph?
We believe in giving back to our community. Maxed Out Fitness supports many causes each year, including domestic violence, 9/11 first responders, human trafficking, cystic fibrosis, and wounded warriors. As a veteran-owned business, the Lt. Michael Murphy Memorial Scholarship Foundation is a cause particularly close to our hearts. We host the challenge for free so that it may benefit the scholarship foundation and to honor Lt. Murphy’s legacy as a true American hero. Check out our Events page to learn about other upcoming fundraisers we’re participating in.
  4. Is it free to participate?
Every challenge participant is required to pay a registration fee through the official Murph Challenge website. However, there is no additional fee to participate at the Maxed Out Fitness location. All proceeds go directly through and in benefit of the Foundation.
  5. Is Maxed Out Fitness an official host?
Yes, we are! You can find us on the Official Hosts page on The Murph Challenge website. We are currently the only official host in Annapolis, MD.
  6. Is The Murph Challenge only for CrossFit?
No! We welcome anyone and everyone who wishes to participate.
  7. Does it matter where I do the challenge?
You can participate at the location of any official host. The Murph is not about the host – it’s about Lt. Murph and his legacy: the scholarship foundation. Just make sure to register through the official website and that you’re participating at the location of one of their official hosts. That way, you can be sure the money is getting to where it belongs.
  8. Does Maxed Out Fitness receive any money for this event?
We don’t! We pay to officially register and we pay to host the people (food, drinks, supplies, etc). We collect nothing from participants as they register directly through the official website. We provide everything at our own cost to support the community, the foundation, and the legacy of a true American hero.
